Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the effect of cypermethrin on the growth of ciliate protozoan Paramecium caudatum. Materials and Methods: Monoxenic culture of P. caudatum, were exposed to different doses (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2 μg/L) of cypermethrin along with control for 24, 48, 72, and 96 h time interval. The total numbers of live and dead cells were counted after trypan blue staining in Neubauer hemocytometer. Results: Marked decrease in the number of living cells with the increase in the concentration of cypermethrin and with increasing exposure time intervals was recorded. Conclusion: The results indicate that cypermethrin is toxic to P. caudatum even at low concentrations when it enters in the aquatic system through runoff. Keywords

Aquatic organisms come in direct contact with the pesticides that sprayed onto the agricultural lands are washed out by the rain water. Fishes are affected by exposure to these pesticides. The present study was conducted to determine the toxicity of lambda cyhalothrin on the kidney, liver & testis and biochemical, hematological, behavioural parameters of Clarias batrachus. Control group fed with normal diet and kept for 15 and 30 days. The treated groups included normal diet along with 1.33 μg L-1 of Lambda-cyhalothrin for 15 days and 30 days. The treatment group exhibited disrupted shoaling behaviour characterized by irregular, erratic, and darting swimming movements and loss of equilibrium. Administration of lambda cyhalothrin also causes damage to the tissues of the testes, kidney and liver. Marked changes in the histo-architecture of these organs were observed. All these results suggest that the lambda cyhalothrin induced changes in C. batrachus directly or indirectly by modulating the physiological functions in the fishes. Keywords

Quinolones are broad spectrum antibiotics and are widely used in veterinary practice. But because of continuous improvement in their bactericidal and metabolic properties, it resulted in an increased amount of genotoxicity among animals. Vitamin C is a well-known antioxidant and a free radical scavenger and protects the cell from endogenous oxidative DNA damage. The aim of the study was to find the modulatory effect of Vitamin C against the enrofloxacin induced chromosomal aberrations and nuclear damage. The toxicity includes a significant decrease in mitotic index and increases in the number of chromosomal aberrations like break, deletion, centromeric attenuation, centric fusion and AgNOR counts in chicken bone marrow nuclei. The combined administration of enrofloxacin and Vitamin C resulted has markedly increased the mitotic index and reduced the chromosomal aberrations and AgNOR counts in the bone marrow cells. Keywords

The present research was outlined to survey the intense and incessant poisonous quality of Cefixime and Cefotaxime antibiotics on Daphnia magna. The toxicity of Cefixime and Cefotaxime antibiotics was evaluated by 48h acute toxicity (US, EPA, 2002) and chronic toxicity (OECD guidelines 211 (OECD, 2012)). The data showed that EC50 of Cefixime was 78.78 mg/l and for Cefotaxime was 25.82 mg/l. Daphnia magna. showed more sensitivity to Cefotaxime, when compared with Cefixime antibiotic. Chronic toxicity showed that, Cefotaxime cause effects on reproduction but Cefixime had no adverse effect on Daphnia. The mortality rate enhanced and average number of neonates diminished as exposure to Cefotaxime antibiotic was increased. Daphnia. died (50%) at a concentration of 16.2 mg/l of Cefotaxime. Keywords
